Hiring a personal trainer is a good way to help you increase your physical fitness, tone your body, and help you lose weight. During your training sessions your trainer will teach you ways to increase your fitness level, but there are some things you can do before your session. Here are three things you can do to prepare for your training sessions.
Set Your Fitness Goals
Your personal trainer is going to work with you to teach you the most effective workouts to meet your fitness goals. So, before you meet with your personal trainer for the first session, consider what specific goals you want to reach. For example, you may want to tone your muscles and lose twenty pounds of extra weight, or you might want to increase your endurance to run a half marathon in six months. Write your goals down so you can share them with your new trainer at your first session.
It can be helpful to have these goals ready for when you meet with your personal trainer for the first session, so you can work with your trainer to collaborate on them. After going over your fitness goals with your trainer, they might consider your goals to be unrealistic. Take this time to adjust your goals so they are attainable. Having unrealistic fitness goals will only frustrate you and can cause you to lose your commitment as the goals are difficult to meet. Then, as you are working on achieving your realistic goals with your personal trainer, they can help remind you of them when you get tired or discouraged.
Warm Up Before Your Session
You should always arrive to each of your training sessions at least ten minutes early. There are a couple reasons for this. First, this is so you don't miss out on any of your session time, because once it is lost, you have already paid for it and won't get it back. Second, arriving to your session early will give you time to warm-up for your workout. You don't need to spend the beginning part of each personal training session completing your warm-up while you trainer watches.
If you have never worked out before and don't know how to complete a warm-up, you can do a simple jump rope warm-up on your first day by yourself. Then, your personal trainer will teach you some appropriate warm-ups during your first training session.
For your first session, arrive early with a jump rope and complete a jumping rope warm-up for five minutes. Jumping rope at a moderate pace for five minutes will warm up your body, raise your heart rate, and put you in a fat-burning zone for when your trainer arrives. Then, you can meet with your personal trainer and jump right into that day's training session.
Track Your Eating
You hired a personal trainer to help you achieve weight-loss or other specific fitness goals, so you should track your food intake for one week before your first session. Then, bring your food diary to your session so you can go over your daily food intake with your personal trainer to find and change any unhealthy eating habits. Then, continue recording your food intake each week and bring it to your next training session to review with your trainer. The reason for this is because when you change up your physical exercise, you will also need to change the way you eat to see the best physical changes in yourself.
A recent study followed 1,800 men and women over six months and showed those who kept a food diary lost 50 percent more weight than those who did not. Keeping a food diary helps you recognize and become accountable for the foods you eat. Each time you eat something, you will be required to write down the food, portion size, and the time you ate it. This can cause you to reconsider any unhealthy food choices. Then, write down any emotions or feelings you are dealing with at the time you eat, you and your trainer can uncover any emotional-eating issues.

As the mother of three, I have a hard time finding enough hours in the day to get everything done that needs to be done.
